Phishing emails to watch out for

Had any suspicious looking emails hit your inbox lately?

Phishing emails are hoax emails that try and trick you into disclosing your personal information. They're made to look like they come from a trusted source and usually ask you to click on a link to log in, update your contact details or even provide credit card information.

It’s smart to question any email that asks you to submit your details, even if it has the logo or email address of an official organisation. Here's some tips on what to look out for.

Got any examples? Share them so we can all be on the lookout.

Re: Phishing emails to watch out for

Here's a phishing email that was circulating through a number of RMIT email addresses last week...

The 'View file' link takes you to a fake web address. Although it looks like a legitimate Dropbox page, the odd URL gives it away!

Here's another recent hoax email...

The suspect link then takes you to an Excel file that requests your email password!

Re: Phishing emails to watch out for

Hi all,

A new phishing email is doing the rounds at RMIT.

It claims to be from IT Services, though as you can see in this screenshot - the email and web address are not right.

Hey @Walter_B

We've put together a guide on Phishing, which covers some steps to take when you receive a suspect email.
