The images used here are from an Ubuntu11.04 installation of Linux, and may differ in appearance to other distributions

 

Your Linux distribution must have the following:

  • Linux kernel version 2.6 or higher
  • Network Manager 0.7.0 or higher
  • WPA Supplicant 0.6.3 or higher
  • Drivers available for your wireless network card

Some Linux distributions that meet these criteria are:

  • Fedora 9 or higher
  • Ubuntu 8.04 or higher
  • SUSE ** IP Address ** or higher

 

To connect to the RMIT-University wireless network:

 

Step 1. Click the ‘Network Manager Wireless icon in the system tray

Step 2. Select ‘RMIT-Universitynetwork

 

The Wireless Network Authentication Required screen displays

Complete the following fields:

Wireless security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise

Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)

Inner authentication: MSCHAPv2

Username: your RMIT ID

Password: your NDS password (same password as for myRMIT and computer/website login)

 

Step 3. Click ‘Connect’ button

 

The warning No Certificate Authority certificate chosen dialogue box displays

Step 4. Click Ignore button

 

The Network Manager application will connect

A dialogue box displays confirming RMIT-University, Connection Established
