16 years after deciding to pursue a career in Human Resource Management in 1996, Raj finally landed his first HR role in 2012. From then, within 4 years, he became Head of Human Resources at Open Universities Australia.
Raj came to Australia in 1998 as an international student to undertake a Masters with the intention of working in HR, but upon completion of his studies his road was not smooth. For 2 years between 2000 -2002, he couldn’t find a job within HRM and decided to move laterally to instead focus on simply using his skills and competencies in a non-HR role.
Now former Head of HR at Open Universities Australia, he shares his experience of his journey of breaking through into HRM. What is so amazing about Raj is that he also pledges he would do to help others, especially skilled migrants, new international students who may not have ‘Australian experience’, and are in a similar situation as he was in the years 2000-02. After all that is what the role of any human resources professional - seeking potential talent for the job & organisation.
