Opening in stages early 2017

 

The New Academic Street project is being delivered over three stages. Stage 1, the Student Portals in Building 10, level 9-13, was handed back in March 2016.

 

Stage 2 is the largest and most complicated phase of the project with the 16 month building program created around a live working environment. Lendlease will start handing back the new NAS Stage 2 spaces starting in February 2017.

A five-phase unveiling of these new spaces will start on 1 February and run through until mid-April.

 

What exactly will be open when?

RMIT Connect - Building 10, level 4 & 5
Experience Design Centre - Building 10, level 4
Bathrooms and access from Swanston Street & Bowen Street
New DDA lift - Building 12
13 Feb
70% of Media Precinct including 3 studios and work spaces;
Student spaces on level 4 and 20% of retail spaces and the RUSU Compass drop-in space;
50% of of Library spaces on levels 5 & 6
Student Portals on level 7 & 8 (excluding terraces)
18 Feb
Remainder of Library on level 5
30 March
Remainder of Media Precinct
Remainder of student spaces on level 4
Remainder of Library spaces including terraces
13 April
Swanston Street balconies
Building 10 atrium light well
Keep an eye out for tours, information packs, updates on the website and fun activations to introduce staff and students to the new spaces.

 

Here's a few stats

The builder is handing back about 13,000 square metres of new space and by mid-April there will be more than 2800 student seats available across the new Media Precinct, Student Hall and RMIT Connect, the new Library in Buildings 10 and 12 and in Building 8 on level 5, the Retail Food Market and in Bowen Street.


Once this is complete two-thirds of the NAS project will be finished
